Policy statement about the use of animals in research and teaching, ethics and animal welfare.
SoleTech is a leading innovative agritech company dedicated to a sustainable, efficient, and economical future in animal care.
We strongly believe in advocating for the animals which we are so privileged to work with.
We are passionate about animal welfare and ethics, which is highly regulated in New Zealand under Part 6 of the Animal Welfare Act 1999.
Our aim is to prioritise animal health and welfare by improving animal welfare standards. This is highly valued by our team, as well as the domestic and international consumers of today who also have high regards for how animals are treated.
The benefits of excellent animal welfare also extend to improving the welfare of the people working with animals and ensures robust research outcomes.
SoleTech is proudly parented by AgResearch, one of New Zealand's largest Crown Research Institutes.
Everything we do must be approved by their Animal Ethics Committee (AEC).
The AEC legally includes an animal welfare specialist, independent veterinarian and lay member.
The AEC only allows research when the potential pros outweigh the cons and when there are no other reasonable methods available.
SoleTech enthusiastically and voluntarily signed up to the Australian/New Zealand Council for the Care of Animals in Research and Teaching (ANZCAART) Openness Agreement on Animal Research and Teaching in New Zealand.
We endeavour to meet best practice standards and to uphold the 3R’s: Replacement, Reduction and Refinement
· by always looking to see when and where animals can be replaced.
· by reducing harm to the animals and by reducing the need for animals in research to the minimum necessary and by maximising benefit from the research we conduct.
· by reviewing current practices internationally and striving to not only achieve a positive research outcome, but to raise the bar for future research.
